How Tripledub helped IOH and a major manufacturer save money and time with a renovation of its occupational health database

IOH approached Tripledub requiring the complete overhaul of an occupational health database it maintained for a major manufacturer.

The manufacturer had very specific requirements. Any new application needed to be fast and easy to use. The system would be used to handle personal information, so data security was a top priority. Crucially, the firm had implemented SAP as their global ERP, so the replacement database had to interface well with SAP R/3.

Furthermore, the firm needed Tripledub to act quickly. It was already using a database to record occupational health information, but it was not networked and could only be operated by one user at a time. The legacy system was proving to be an increasingly expensive bottleneck.

How we approached the project

Tripledub scoped the project by speaking to potential users, assessing requirements and then suggesting technical solutions.

We set up a MySQL database and an HTML front end allowing the system to be used over the web in several sites and hence by staff working from home or via mobile.

The site was secured using SSL, and linked to SAP.

The interface was rationalised to take into account the tasks staff would be performing, while seach and data entry was made more intuitive and user-friendly.

Results

The manufacturer's occupational healthcare and human resources staff are now using the system to improve the recording of events and incidents with health implications. It is helping to track trends and diagnose problems across the division, saving time and money through improved efficiency, ease of use, greater availability and lower training costs.
